Cardiolipin Kolmer tests on plasma.

چکیده
In a letter to the Editor of this Journal, it has been stated that cardiolipin Kolmer tests are consistently anticomplementary when plasma is used in place of serum (Klein, 1956). Since this test was not included in the paper criticized (Coleman, Appleman, and Kurtz, 1955), this report concerns our results using cardiolipin Kolmer antigen with serum and with plasma cleared of coagulated fibrinogen (Table).

Evaluation of cardiolipin antigen in the tests for syphilis in leprosy.
Pangborn (14) has shown that an antigen for the serologic diagnosis of syphilis can be prepared by the addition of lecithin and cholesterol to a phospholipid obtained from beef heart. Tests for syphilis using these so-called cardiolipin antigens have given few false positive readings in at least one disease, namely, malaria (7, 8, 15, 16). In leprosy, on the other hand, Rein and his coworkers (...

Many of the nontreponemal or serological tests for syphilis involve the detection of serum antibodies (reagin) which are not directed against a component of the causative organism itself but may arise as a result of pathological changes brought about by proliferation of Treponema pallidum in host tissue. Test antigens for the detection of reagin are lipoidal, the main active component being the...
متن کاملUse of an Individual Unsaturated Lecithin from Yeast in Antigens for The
Hanahan and Jayko (1952) isolated a pure individual unsaturated lecithin, L-ox-(dipalmitoleyI)lecithin, from fresh baker's yeast by adsorption on alumina. They showed that hydrogenation of this material produced the corresponding saturated lecithin which was identical with the synthetic L-oc-(dipalmitoyl)-lecithin of Baer and Maurukas (1952). The latter compound, when used in combination with c...
متن کاملSerological, nephelometrical, and statistical studies on the employment of synthetic lecithin in cardiolipin antigens.
Cardiolipin antigens, used in the sero-diagnosis of syphilis, are mixtures of the phospholipids, cardiolipin, and purified natural lecithin (beefheart or egg), and usually also contain cholesterol. In 1949 Baer and Kates (1949, 1950) succeeded in the synthesis of L-ac-dimyristoyl lecithin and in the following years other types of synthetic lecithin were produced, including a D-oc-dimyristoyl le...
متن کاملSaturated synthetic lecithins in VDRL and Kolmer antigens for the sero-diagnosis of syphilis.
When pure individual synthetic lecithins became available for study (Baer and Kates, 1949, 1950), there was immediate interest in their possible use in cardiolipin antigens as substitutes for Pangborn lecithin. Rosenberg (1949) reported briefly on synthetic L-c-(dipalmitoyl)-lecithin in antigens for the Hinton, Kline, Rein-Bossack, VDRL, and Kolmer tests. He found that replacement of Pangborn's...
